Fishing: Tips
Tackle
Choose medium to light spinning gear for Walleyes, with six to twelve pound test line. Jigs are very effective, the most popular sizes being 1/4 and 3/8 ounce. Yellow, orange and white are all good colors. If you're using live bait, (leeches or crawlers only) a lindy rig is a must.
Fifteen to twenty pound test line is what you need to take in those big Northerns. An eight to ten inch wire leader is a must, and spoons such as Daredevils, Red Eyes, as well as giants Mepps and Rapala will do well when it comes to lures. As for rods and reels, stick to a medium weight rod and choose either conventional casting or spinning gear.
Live Bait
Depending on which of our outposts you choose to visit, you may or may not have the option of using minnows. Some of our lakes have restrictions on the use of minnows, and it's best to check with us beforehand if you would like to use them. Leeches and night-crawlers can be used at any one of our lakes.
Note: you cannot import live baits into Canada. However, it is available in Ear Falls.
Licenses
Conservation licenses are included in fishing packages. Regular fishing licenses are not included in your package, but are available at our air base for your convenience.
