Reservations: Border Crossing
Always keep in mind that the final decision on admissibility into Canada is made by the officer at the port of entry after the appropriate interview!
To enter Canada, all persons need 2 forms of identification. This includes children (17 years of age and under). If children are traveling with you and they are not yours, they must have a note from their legal guardian giving them permission travel with you. You should be prepared to supply a telephone number for the legal guardian so Customs Agents can confirm the travel arrangements. To prove identity, bring documents such as:
- A Birth Certificate
- A Passport
- Your Driver's License

If you have a minor criminal conviction (including a DUI) that is at least 10 years old, you may apply for a Letter of Rehabilitation from Citizenship and Immigration. (For more serious offences, the Canadian Consulate must be contacted.) This can be completed upon entering Northwestern Ontario when crossing at Fort Frances or Thunder Bay. Either port of entry will forward a kit to you by contacting their office (allow 4-6 weeks for processing).
